Doctors,
We received this update from Jake Lee, of the UAJ concerning the issues for Utah licensed personal injury professionals:
This is time-sensitive and requires immediate action.
SB211 is actively moving, and while we are fully engaged at the Capitol, we cannot do this without you.
The Utah Association For Justice and many others are working tirelessly on your behalf—meeting with legislators, tracking amendments, and advocating for medical providers in the personal injury space at every step. We are doing everything we can on the policy side. But legislative outcomes depend on hearing directly from constituents—and that means you.
Why SB211 Matters — Right Now
Although SB211 is classified as a tort bill, its impact directly affects injured patients, personal injury cases, and your ability to provide and be paid for necessary chiropractic care.
Tort policy determines how injury-related care is evaluated, challenged, delayed, or discounted. When these policies move in the wrong direction, chiropractic care is often one of the first services questioned.
What This Means for Patients
Many PI patients:
- Cannot afford to pay out of pocket
- Rely on injury claims to access care
- Are trying to avoid surgery, injections, or long-term medication
If SB211 does not pass, injured patients face a higher risk of:
- Delayed or denied access to chiropractic care
- Treatment plans being cut short for legal—not clinical—reasons
- Pressure to settle claims before recovery is complete
- Being pushed toward more invasive or pharmaceutical options
If SB211 does not pass, we risk being unable to provide care for some of the most vulnerable patients in our state—especially those injured through no fault of their own.
What This Means for Chiropractors — Especially PI Practices
For doctors who treat personal injury cases, the consequences are immediate:
- Increased disputes over medical necessity
- Challenging your motives in providing care
- Being forced to accept a health insurance rate for treatment done on a lien
- Greater scrutiny and devaluation of chiropractic services
This isn’t theoretical. Over time, this environment makes PI care financially and legally unsustainable—even when patients clearly need treatment. We Are Doing the Work — But We Need You.
Legislators need to hear from practicing chiropractors in their districts. Your voice reinforces the work being done on your behalf—and right now, it is critical.
TAKE ACTION TODAY (2 MINUTES)
Please contact your state senator and representative today and urge them to support SB211.
A short email is good but a phone call is better. Tell them:
- You are a chiropractor
- You treat injured patients
- SB211 matters to your patients’ ability to complete care
- Failing to pass this bill will hurt you and your practice
Timing matters. Silence will be interpreted as indifference.
Thank you for standing up for your patients and yourselves.
